- The RESEVOIR – Discovery Area of the canal du Midi : 31250 Revel – +33 (0)5 61 80 57 57Pierre-Paul Riquet, a 17th century figure from Languedoc, achieved an ancient dream: uniting the Mediterranean sea to the Atlantic ocean. To supply his canal, he used the abundant water of the Montagne Noire and created an amazing water supply system starting at the supply point on the Alzeau River in Tarn. With the Versailles Palace, the canal du Midi is one of the greatest achievements of Louis XIV’s reign. The dam of Saint-Ferréol is the reservoir of the canal du Midi and the keystone of its water supply system. Registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Saint-Ferréol is the oldest dam of France. The RESERVOIR – Discovery Area of the canal du Midi is located down the dyke of the dam in an 18th century house which used to be the enginner’s office. Here you can find a life-size presentation of the canal’s history with it’s engineering structures and ingenious water supply system but also the great people who contributed to it’s creation.Tours for the Taps gallery, upper tunnel of the dam, are proposed by the RESERVOIR’s mediator.Opening times :
